Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is currently leading in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of over 89,000 votes, data from the Election Commission showed.
As per the trends at 11.45 am, Vadra had secured 3,57,165 of the total votes counted. Communist Party of India candidate Sathyan Mokeri was trailing behind with 1,22,130 votes.
Vadra made her electoral debut by contesting from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi won both Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli and Wayanad in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, he could only retain one of the seats according to the provisions of the Representation of People Act, due to which he vacated Wayanad.
In the Nanded Lok Sabha seat, the BJP’s Santukrao Hambarde is leading against the Congress’ Ravindra Chavan by a narrow margin.
Polling for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat was necessitated due to the death of the sitting MP and Congress leader Vasantrao Chavan. His son, Ravindra Chavan, contested against Hambarde.
Voting for the bye-polls in Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency and 31 Assembly seats occurred on November 13. Voting for the remaining 15 Assembly constituencies and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra was held on November 20.
In most cases, the bye-elections had to be conducted as the seats fell vacant when their MLAs were elected as MPs in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Bye-election results for two seats in Sikkim – Soreng-Chakung and Namchi-Singhithang – have already been declared. Sikkim Krantikari Morcha candidates Aditya Golay and Satish Chandra Rai were on October 30 elected unopposed to the Assembly after the opposing candidates withdrew their nominations.
The BJP was leading in Assam’s Dholai and Behali seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People’s Party (Liberal) were leading from Bongaigaon and Sidli.
In Bihar, the BJP was leading in Tarari, while its allies Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) and Janata Dal (Secular) were ahead in Imamganj and Belaganj. The Bahujam Samaj Party was leading from the Ramgarh seat.
The BJP was leading from Raipur City South, the only seat in Chhattisgarh where bye-elections were held.
From Gujarat’s Vav seat, the Congress was ahead of the BJP.
The Congress was leading in all three seats in Karnataka where bye-elections were held – Shiggaon, Sandur and Channapatna.
The BJP was leading in Kerala’s Palakkad seat, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was ahead in Chelakkara.
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP was leading in Vijaypur, while the Congress was ahead in Budhni.
The National People’s Party was leading in Meghalaya’s Gambegre Assembly seat.
In Punjab, the Congress was ahead in Dera Baba Nanak and Barnala, while the Aam Aadmi Party was ahead in Chhabbewal and Gidderbaha.
In neighbouring Rajasthan, the BJP was leading in Jhunjhunu and Deoli-Uniara, while the Congress was ahead in Ramgarh and Dausa. The Rashtriya Loktantrik Party was ahead in Khinswar, while the Bharat Adivasi Party was leading in Salumber.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP was leading in five seats of Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Phulpur and Majhawan. The Rashtriya Lok Dal, a BJP ally, was ahead in Meerapur, while the Opposition Samajwadi Party was ahead in Karhal, Sishamau, Katehari.
The BJP’s Asha Nautiyal was ahead in Kedarnath, the sole seat in Uttarakhand where bye-elections were held.
The Trinamool Congress was leading in all six seats in West Bengal – Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur and Taldangra.
